Man Utd ‘expected’ to secure agreement with defender – report

It’s has been a tough year or two for Luke Shaw, much to the surprise of the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern…

Signed from Southampton in 2014, Shaw was expected to really progress and become a star for the Red Devils, but his progress under Jose Mourinho has come to a near halt.

A spell characterised by a lack of form and fitness, the Englishman’s future has looked increasingly uncertain in recent months, with Mourinho’s confidence in the defender seemingly at an all time low.

However, it appears as though the Portuguese is ready to back him to return to form – with the Times reporting that Man Utd are ‘expected’ to extend his contract soon. Significantly, Shaw is set to return to action over the next month or so, and so it appears as though his manager is ready to reintegrate him into the first team.

This will, of course, be a massive show of faith for Shaw, and that is exactly that he needs at present.

He has really struggled as of late, and a new contract could be just what he needs to refind his form.

Landlord’s Verdict

The left-back spot is a bit of a problem area for Man Utd at present, and there’s nobody better to fill the position than Shaw.

At 22-years-old, he is still young enough to reach his potential, provided that he can stay fit over the coming months.

Mourinho doesn’t have many options, so provided that he works hard and impresses, he should be able to find a route back into the first team, and subsequently, secure his renewal.
