The Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate to see them join…
Man Utd’s campaign so far has been nothing short of a disaster.
Currently sitting in 6th place, Jose Mourinho’s men have faltered at every turn – and whilst there are issues throughout the team, there is no doubting that, defensively, Man Utd need a lot of work.
Having to rely on players like Young, Rojo and Valencia in the defence doesn’t fill the Man Utd faithful in the Tavern with confidence; and it seemingly doesn’t give Mourinho any either.
According to the Mirror, Man Utd are eyeing up moves for both Bayern Munich defender David Alaba and Southampton stalwart Virgil van Dijk – as Mourinho looks to improve his disappointing defence.
Alaba, a trophy-laden defender, would seemingly solve Mourinho’s left-back woes – whilst van Dijk would offer a dose of Premier League experience and defensive solidity in the heart of the Man Utd defence.
Alaba is undoubtedly the more high-profile of the pair, having been a near-constant for Bayern Munich over the last few years. He is probably Europe’s best in his role, so our landlord thinks that it would be a real coup for Man Utd should they manage to land him.
Man Utd’s defensive woes have been well documented so far this season, and so the Red Devils in the Tavern will need no reminding of how essential it is that Mourinho invests in extra depth in January.
Our landlord, though, has noted that Mourinho must start spending more wisely – as recent big money signings like Mkhitaryan and Pogba have yet to really work out.
