Man Utd face tough test to land impressive central defender

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are finding it hard to keep up with their side’s pursuit of defensive depth…

Much has been made in the Transfer Tavern about Man Utd’s defensive situation, with the Red Devils’ currently succumbing to number of injury and form issues.

Luke Shaw has hardly featured, Eric Bailly is away on international duty and Marcos Rojo is injured – leaving Jose Mourinho with very few options at the back.

His choices were limited at the start of the season, and that situation has only worsened – and it is clear that the Portuguese boss is doing all he can to improve the situation.

Players like Victor Lindelof, Jose Fonte and Kostas Manolas have all reportedly been targeted by Mourinho over the last few weeks – all with no success yet – and now it would appear as though the Man Utd boss is looking elsewhere after failing in his pursuit of primary targets.

According to the Sun, Man Utd are targeting 18-year-old Red Bull Salzburg defender Dayot Upamecano.

An impressive centre-half, Man Utd’s pursuit of the defender is not going to be easy – with Salzburg’s sister club RB Leipzig also in the fold – with the side reportedly having first-refusal on the defender.

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are hopeful that a deal can be made for a defender, though they aren’t sure that an unproven 18-year-old is the right choice.
