The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been expecting a deal to take Wayne Rooney away from Old Trafford for several years now…
After all, the English forward has struggled in the Premier League for the last few seasons, and has seen his goal tally diminish year-on-year over the last few campaigns.
Under Jose Mourinho, he has been relegated to the bench after a poor run of performances – and for many, the writing has been on the wall ever since.
It would appear as though Rooney is one step closer to a departure now, though, with the Mirror reporting that Man Utd are ready to complete a deal that could see the Englishman depart.
A host of clubs in China are reportedly keen on him, and given that their transfer window is set to remain open for another month – the Man Utd brass are said to be confident that Rooney will be departing the club over the next few weeks.
This is as good a time as any for Rooney to leave, of course, given the current circumstances at Old Trafford. He isn’t a young player anymore, and with his career beginning to wind down – a big money move away certainly makes sense.
Furthermore, Rooney recently broke the record to become Man Utd’s highest ever goalscorer – leaving his mark on a legendary career at Old Trafford.
Whilst the Man Utd fans in the Tavern are disappointed that Rooney could be set to leave the club, they are of the opinion that it is the right time for it to happen. After all, with players like Martial, Mata and Pogba vying for his spot in the first team – his role within the squad is looking increasingly uncertain.
