The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been expecting their club to seal a deal for Alvaro Morata for several weeks now…
As recently as Tuesday, the Red Devils seemed to be edging closer to a deal for the attacker, with a move making sense for all parties. Man Utd would be able to plug a significant gap within their first team squad, whilst Alvaro Morata would get more game time and Real Madrid would earn a lot of money from a player that was a bit-part figure last season.
However, it appears as though that last factor could be a sticking point for Los Blancos, with the Sun reporting that the club are now demanding up to £80 million to allow Morata to leave this summer – with Man Utd only willing to hit £60 million at present.
This is, of course, a big problem for the Red Devils – with the club likely unwilling to cough up a further £20 million for the player. That sort of money is approaching a record fee, and whilst Morata is clearly a talented player, Man Utd may well be able to find a better player for less money elsewhere.
That being said, both Morata and Man Utd appear keen on the move, and so this could be just a delaying tactic from Real Madrid as they look to work out what’s best for business.
Whatever happens, a new forward is vital at Man Utd this summer – and so Jose Mourinho needs to make sure that he isn’t wasting time on a player that isn’t going to make the move.
