The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for their side to bring in a few players this month, and so a recent report from ESPN detailing an offer from Man Utd has certainly peaked their interest.
According to ESPN, Man Utd – alongside Nantes and Real Betis – have made a ‘firm’ offer for PSG midfielder Lucas Moura, in the form of a loan deal for the Brazilian. Significantly, though, in news that will likely come as a blow to Jose Mourinho, PSG are apparently only interested in a permanent departure for the Brazilian.
As a result, unless Man Utd change their mind and go in with a significant transfer offer, their interest in Moura is likely to end in disappointment.
That would certainly be disappointing for the Red Devils, as Moura is a player that they could really use. A number of Man Utd’s attacking midfielders are struggling at present, with both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford drawing a lot of negative attention in the Transfer Tavern.
Moura, then, who can play on both the left and the right, would be a good fit, providing pace, technique and offensive quality to an attack that has otherwise lacked it this season. With several years in Ligue 1 behind him, and 35 international caps to his name, the Brazilian also would bring bags of experience to Old Trafford.
However, at the moment, a deal does not look likely for Man Utd.
You can certainly see why Man Utd are keen on a loan. Moura has become a rotational option at PSG, and so the prospect of getting him off the books may well have appealed to the French club.
However, that doesn’t seem to be the case, and so the only way, it seems, that Man Utd will be able to get this deal done is if they fork over the cash. That being said, he’s rated at £34.2 million by Transfer Markt, and so he won’t be cheap.
He is a top-tier player on his day, though, and so he might be worth a risk.
