Man Utd have too much talent to justify a summer splurge on Jadon Sancho

The prospect of Man Utd landing Jadon Sancho, which has been reported by the Independent as something that the Red Devils would like to see happen, is certainly an exciting move. You’d likely struggle to find a Man Utd fan that is against the prospect of a move, given the obvious talent the Englishman possesses.

He’s looking to be a real star of the future, and as one of the biggest teams in the world, it’s only right that Man Utd should be looking at bringing in some of the brightest young talents.

However, in the case of Sancho, it’s not really necessary.

Of course, the most obvious reason why comes in the form of Man Utd’s needs. For all of the flaws within the first team at Old Trafford, their options in the attack are pretty impressive. Between the likes of Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez, and others, the Red Devils aren’t short of players going forward. You’ve got to ask, then, where would Sancho fit in?

What makes this even more significant, however, is the fact that Man Utd have even more unharnessed talent coming through the developmental system that can’t be ignored.

Take Tahith Chong, for example. He’s had a bit of a breakthrough in recent weeks, albeit due to the injury issues currently engulfing the Red Devils’ first team, and it’s been great to see. He’s a player that shares a position with Sancho, and he’s also pretty similar stylistically. He’s quick, he’s aggressive, he’s got fantastic technical ability, and he’s still just 18-years-old. He’s outgrown the developmental system at Old Trafford, so the obvious next step is to be given a first-team chance.

Another player is Mason Greenwood. Though able to play across the attack, he’s another player that would love a chance in the Man Utd first team, and he’s got enough quality to make an impact out wide as well as in the middle. He’s a lethal goalscorer and he’s got good pace and energy, and like Chong, he’s already had a taste of first-team action. He’s bagged 13 goals in just 12 games in the under-18 Premier League this season, and that speaks volumes of his talent.

There are many other players in the Man Utd academy, too, that are deserving of a chance, like Angel Gomes, and that only adds to this sentiment.

The point here, then, is that Sancho just isn’t needed. Man Utd have so much young talent, in addition to vast swathes of options currently in the team, and so maybe this is one for the Red Devils to avoid.
