The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed with the resurgence of Luke Shaw this season. It has been a very tough few years for the Englishman, with injuries and a lack of form plaguing his career after leaving Southampton.
This season, though, he has returned to fitness, and he’s returned to Jose Mourinho’s plans. His Old Trafford career has looked over at more than one point in recent times, but now he looks more involved than he has ever since moving to the club.
Having been a regular over the last few weeks, it appears as though Jose Mourinho is finally coming around to the idea of Shaw being a long-term fixture in the first team, and that has been reflected by a recent report from the Mirror.
According to the Mirror, Luke Shaw is in line for a new deal at Old Trafford after impressing Jose Mourinho. He currently earns £80,000-per-week, it is said, but a new deal could come at some point over the coming months, with his current deal set to expire in 2019.
It’s no real surprise, of course, given recent events. Shaw’s career has been very up and down, and he could have thrown the towel in at numerous points during his stint at Old Trafford. In reality, though, quite the opposite has occurred, and he has seemed more determined than ever to turn things around.
His future at Man Utd is now looking bright, and whilst there is a long road to go before he can truly be regarded as a Man Utd regular and a core component of the squad, the early signs of 2018 have been very good.
There has always been a great player in there, but getting the best out of Shaw has taken some hard work from Mourinho. Whether or not you agree with his methods, there is no doubting that they have worked.
As a teenager, Shaw looked on course to become an England great, and if his fine form continues, he’ll likely be a candidate to travel to Russia with England this summer. He’s clearly improving at Man Utd, and this report signals that good times are coming.
