Man Utd identify priority transfer target as Mourinho looks to fill important squad gap

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are keen for Jose Mourinho to bulk out his attacking options this summer…

The Red Devils struggled offensively last season, and with the impending departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it is clear that a new forward is a real priority for the Portuguese.

It doesn’t look like Mourinho is planning on wasting any time finding the solution to that problem, though, with the Telegraph reporting that the manager has identified his first choice player to fill that gap. According to the Telegraph, Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata has emerged as Mourinho’s main man this summer – with the manager seemingly impressed with the Spanish striker.

Significantly, Chelsea and AC Milan have been linked with a move for him over the last month or so, and as a result, any move is likely to come at a premium for the Red Devils.

Still, there is no doubting that Morata is a prize worth paying big money for, with the striker in fine form for Real Madrid this season even though he has been operating with limited opportunities. Despite starting just 14 times domestically, Morata bagged an impressive 15 goals last season, highlighting just how effective he is in front of goal.

At present, Marcus Rashford is Man Utd’s only real option going forward, with Wayne Rooney unlikely to feature regularly next season if he remains at the club this summer, and so Morata would likely look to compete with the teenager for a starting berth.

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern would love to see Morata join…
