The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are loving the look of Man Utd’s squad this season. It has been a long time coming, but after several years in the void, the Red Devils appear to finally be back. Jose Mourinho has really taken his team to another level, whilst the acquisition of a few big names has really helped them turn a corner.
The attention of those in the Transfer Tavern, though, for a change is not on one of Mourinho’s latest signings. Rather, it’s on a few players that are already at the club owing to a report from the Daily Mail. According to the Daily Mail, a decision has been made on the future of several important Man Utd players, all of whom have less than a year remaining on their current deal.
Luke Shaw, Juan Mata, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Ashley Young are the players in question, and the Daily Mail are reporting that the Red Devils will utilise an option in their respective contracts allowing for their deals to be extended for a further year – as the club look to tie down some of their most important players.
This makes sense on a number of levels beyond the simple fact of not losing any of them on a free next year. Indeed, the fact of the matter is that they have all proven themselves to be crucial members of the first team fold at Old Trafford, and so Mourinho will be desperate to hold on to them.
This has come as music to the ears of the fans in the Transfer Tavern.
Man Utd need to ensure that each player’s long-term future is sorted out, but this is a decent start from the Red Devils. Until it’s confirmed, fans will be concerned, but this report certainly appears to suggest that it’s a matter of when rather than if.
The likes of Luke Shaw, Juan Mata, Daley Blind and Ander Herrera’s deals are particularly important given that they’re all players that have several of their best years ahead of them – and so they will still be able to do a job going forward.
