The Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have high hopes for him…
James Wilson got his first taste of first-team action under Louis van Gaal, and whilst he failed to make an impact as huge as Marcus Rashford – he proved that he is certainly one to watch in the Premier League.
At just 20, Wilson has already made 15 league appearances for the Red Devils – which is a testament to how highly rated the young English forward is.
This faith was cemented over the summer, when United chose to loan him to Derby County as he looked to continue his development – with Jose Mourinho likely hoping that he would come back at the end of the season ready to play a part in the Man Utd first team.
However, that does not appear to be the case – with the devastating news that Wilson has suffered a major knee injury during the loan spell.
As per Man Utd’s official website, a statement reads: “Manchester United striker James Wilson has returned to the club for an assessment on a significant knee injury sustained while on loan at Derby County”.
Whilst they do not elaborate on what ‘significant’ refers to, it has left the Man Utd fans fearing the worst. Knee injuries are often game changers, and they can mean months on the sidelines.
He reportedly suffered the injury in a training session on Monday as his side prepared for a clash against Brentford.
Our landlord is gutted for Wilson, but he is also pleased that he’ll be getting the best medical care available at Man Utd. He thinks that the young Englishman will be back to his best in no time…
