The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have very high hopes for Romelu Lukaku this season…
The Belgian bagged a remarkable 25 Premier League goals last season, surpassing even the likes of Diego Costa domestically, and so a move to Old Trafford was seen by many as a natural progression.
That is certainly the way that Michael Carrick sees it, and speaking to the Guardian, he has revealed that whilst Lukaku faces a tough test to adjust, he is sure to succeed at Man Utd.
He said: “It’s a massive jump. You can’t really explain to people until they’ve gone through it. I’m sure he’ll find the same”.
Elaborating, he stated: “He is not going to change his game because he has come here. He does what he does best and obviously, he’s been brought here to score goals. I am pretty certain he will do that this season”.
Certainly, moving from Everton, a side that typically expects to push for a top six finish, to Man Utd, a side that is looking to challenge for the Premier League table, is a big leap for Lukaku. Last season, though, he proved that he was up to the challenge, and as Carrick did all those years ago, a move to Man Utd could well be the making of him.
That said, the demands at Old Trafford will be very high, and in order to be deemed a success, Lukaku must perform as Zlatan Ibrahimovic did last season – and our landlord is backing him to do just that.
