The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for a few of Jose Mourinho’s men to return to fitness. Mourinho has had more than a few problems in the injury department so far this season, with the likes of Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick both struggling in recent months. Fortunately, though, it appears as though the latter of that duo is edging closer to a return.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Michael Carrick was spotted training at Man Utd’s Carrington training base on Monday as he continues to recover from his latest injury problem. Though he is said to have been training away from the group, the mere fact that the Englishman is back on his feet on the pitch is a boost – with a return likely to happen over the coming weeks.
Though he has been a bit-part figure so far this season, Carrick remains a crucial part of the fabric at Old Trafford both on the pitch and off of it. His leadership in the dressing room will be key whenever a blip comes, whilst a lack of options in the middle of the park means that Mourinho is likely to call upon the Englishman upon his return.
He may not be a youngster anymore, but he’s still every bit as important to this team as he always has been.
Fortunately for Man Utd, given their injury problems, the international break is coming up – and so that should give certain players, notably Michael Carrick, a chance to peak their fitness and return to action.
It remains to be seen when Carrick will come back, but Mourinho will be hoping that it is sooner rather than later.
