The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a few more deals to be made over the coming weeks…
The Red Devils picked up an important point against Liverpool over the weekend, but Mourinho will certainly be expecting more. A proven winner, the Portuguese manager demands the best from his players – and if a player isn’t performing, they often find themselves dropped from the team.
Man Utd have been undergoing a pretty rapid rise in recent weeks, and one player has rarely featured in proceedings throughout that spell.
The player in question is Ashley Young, who whilst a stellar player, has rarely been spectacular – and his form under Mourinho has been questionable at best.
His lack of game time this season has seemingly not gone unnoticed, though, with the Sun reporting that Chinese side Shandong Luneng are tracking him.
Whilst there is no mention of an impending deal, the Chinese sides certainly have the funds to make the deal possible – with Mourinho likely to be happy to sell the rarely featuring midfielder.
The Chinese Super League has been heavily involved in proceedings in England this month, with both John Obi Mikel and Oscar already swapping the Premier League for China – and it would appear as though there is no sign of the funds slowing down.
Ashley Young has rarely featured for Man Utd this season, and his role at Man Utd has always been on the periphery of the first team. His significance in the first team has been decreasing in recent years, with 23 starts in the 2014/15 season dropping down to 11 last season. He has only made 2 starts this season, with his fall from grace at Old Trafford continuing.
Our landlord thinks that with Ashley Young’s game time reducing and his career winding down, a move to China might make sense – with a short spell in the emerging league likely the best move for his career.
