Paul Pogba has struggled this season, and ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Jose Mourinho to bring the best out of him.
One way that he could look to do that is by bringing in another midfielder. Fortunately, according to the Sun, Monaco midfielder Fabinho wants to move to Old Trafford. The report adds that Monaco apparently value the Brazilian at around £55 million – and our landlord thinks that he would be a steal at that price.
Bringing in Fabinho would allow for Mourinho to overhaul his midfield, and that, in turn, could have an impact on Pogba.
For his part, Fabinho is a brilliant, defensively-minded midfielder, able to break up play fantastically and put in crunching tackles to stop even the most unstoppable of attackers. He’s also a fantastic passer of the ball, which would allow Man Utd to build from the back more effectively.
His arrival would allow Man Utd to transition to a midfield that utilises a three-man midfield, and that’s something that Pogba is likely to love. The Frenchman played frequently in the system when he was at Juventus, and on the left-hand side he was able to make the most of his ability.
Fabinho, particularly when sitting alongside Nemanja Matic, would be able to handle much of the defensive side of the game, which would allow Pogba to focus on what he does best – attack.
A move for the Brazilian, then, makes perfect sense. Not only would he bring, on a basic level, incredible quality to Old Trafford, but his arrival would also take the stress out of Pogba’s game. The Frenchman is a luxury player, and it’s not worth having him if he is going to have to do more defending than he is attacking. Fabinho, then, could be the perfect solution to the Pogba problem at Old Trafford.
