Man Utd ready to give in with 26-year-old reportedly ‘desperate’ to return home

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern think that David De Gea is Europe’s best goalkeeper…

After a shaky start at Old Trafford, the Spaniard has really grown into one of their best players – with his incredible shot-stopping saving them on more than one occasion in recent seasons.

Given his importance, Man Utd have always been keen to hang on to him, and with good reason. At this point, he is arguably their most important player. However, it appears as though their stance is beginning to soften.

Seemingly as a gesture of goodwill for years of good service, the Sun is reporting that Man Utd are willing to let De Gea leave next summer – provided that they land AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donarumma, whom is said to be their preferred target. De Gea is noted as being ‘desperate’ to return to his homeland, with a move to Real Madrid being the most likely option.

Real Madrid are keen on the player, having been linked with a move as recently as this week.

It would, of course, be a massive loss to see him leave, but there has been a dark cloud over the Spaniard for quite some time, and so if a replacement can be sourced, perhaps it will be time for the Red Devils to move on.

Landlord’s Verdict

Whichever way you spin it, losing De Gea would be a downgrade, as there is genuinely nobody better at present. His shot-stopping is unrivalled in Europe, and it would be a real shame for the Red Devils to lose that.

Still, Donnarumma is a top player, and if they land him they will have the perfect replacement.

The pieces will all have to fall together in place for this to happen, though.
