The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for their side to challenge for the Premier League title next season…
Despite the fact that Jose Mourinho’s side has improved drastically this season, it is clear that the Manchester giants are still some way off challenging for the Premier League title.
Much to the joy of the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, Antonio Conte has spearheaded a remarkable turnaround at Stamford Bridge – and the Blues look destined to win the title this year.
For Man Utd and Mourinho, though, there is always next year – and the 2017/18 campaign is one that the Red Devils will be expected to impress in.
They’re clearly going to need a few more major signings for that, though, and it appears as though they have recieved a pretty significant boost in that regard.
According to the Telegraph, Atletico Madrid have begun the process of lining up replacements for Antoine Griezmann, with Man Utd keen to land the Frenchman this summer.
Whilst the Telegraph do note that Madrid want to keep him for another year, the release clause within his contract could make it impossible for them to resist a move from Jose Mourinho’s side – and the fact that the club are reportedly lining up Alexandre Lacazette as a replacement certainly seems to suggest that Madrid are more receptive to a move now than they were 12 months ago.
This is certainly a boost for the Red Devils, with Griezmann undoubtedly one of Europe’s best forwards. Transfer speculation may well have disrupted him this season, as he isn’t firing as he has in the past – but his quality is impossible to ignore. Last season he bagged an incredible 22 goals.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming towards the end of his career, Griezmann is, for many, the perfect replacement at Man Utd.
