The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big things from their team this season…
Jose Mourinho is building quite the squad at present, and the quality within it is evident. They’re flying high in the Premier League, and whilst Man City are keeping pace, it’s clear that the Red Devils are set for a title challenge this term.
In truth, Man Utd’s squad is one of the Premier League’s best, and Jose Mourinho certainly deserves a lot of credit for building a squad of such quality. He’s had a lot of success in the transfer market as of late, though he’s likely to demand even more over the coming months.
However, one player that doesn’t look likely to move to Old Trafford is Alexis Sanchez. Having yet to sign a contract extension beyond the end of the season, the Chilean is still on course to leave Arsenal at the end of the campaign, and according to the Independent, the Red Devils are keen.
However, significantly, Man Utd said to be concerned that Man City are ahead of them in the race, and are thus resigned to missing out on the lethal attacker.
He was in fine form last season, bagging a remarkable 24 league goals.
Despite the offensive quality on display at Old Trafford, there’s no doubting that Sanchez would make things even better in the attack. With the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford to pick from, the addition of Sanchez would make Mourinho’s options even more mouth-watering.
That said, the financial power of Man City – combined with the allure of Pep Guardiola – could make this a no-go for the Red Devils.
Realistically, Man Utd are probably right – this deal will be hard to make happen.
Man City would likely offer him a higher financial incentive to make the move, whilst Pep Guardiola’s connection with the player – which stretches back to his time at Barcelona – could also be key.
However, what happens on the pitch could have an impact, as if Man Utd dominate their local rivals domestically then Sanchez could have second thoughts. At present, though, a deal does look unlikely to happen.
