Man Utd reportedly facing competition in quest to land lethal forward

Though the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are happy with their side at present, they are still hoping for a few more signings…

It’s been a very good summer for the Red Devils, but with so many competitions to fight for next season it’s clear that more bodies will be needed.

Unsurprisingly, then, there was a unanimous sense of delight amongst supporters earlier this week when reports emerged suggesting that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be back at Man Utd this year – with the club reportedly in talks to land the striker.

Of course, he played for the Red Devils last season before an injury ended his tenure, with his contract expiring earlier this summer.

Though many fans thought a deal was a foregone conclusion, that now doesn’t appear to be the case, with the latest update on the matter hinting at Man Utd having a bit of a challenge to land their man. According to the Telegraph, AC Milan are ready to rival Man Utd for Ibrahimovic, with the Italian club undergoing somewhat of a resurgence at present.

Of course, like Man Utd, Ibrahimovic has previously spent time at Milan – meaning that Jose Mourinho doesn’t have the advantage of sole familiarity with the Swede.

Landlord’s Verdict

A move for Ibrahimovic does, on the surface, make a lot of sense. If nothing else, extra bodies can only be a good thing, and so the fans in the Transfer Tavern were looking forward to this deal being done.

Now, however, the situation is far less clear, with AC Milan clearly holding a special place in the heart of Ibrahimovic. He wouldn’t be going into the unknown in Italy either, so that might be attractive.

Still, Man Utd are a club that players often find difficult to turn down, and Ibrahimovic may well feel that he has unfinished business at the club. Whether a deal happens remains to be seen.
