Man Utd reportedly in talks to secure deal for 17-goal forward

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big things from Romelu Lukaku this season…

The Belgian moved to Old Trafford for big money this summer, and he is expected to back that price tag with goals, but a poor performance against Real Madrid has caused a bit of fear amongst the fans in the pub.

He missed a couple of chances, and whilst he picked up a goal, he didn’t look particularly good – and that is a concern for Man Utd. If they want to compete at the highest level, they need a reliable goalscorer, and whilst Romelu Lukaku is likely to be that man, that certainly remains a risk at this point.

Fortunately, it appears as though Jose Mourinho is a man with a plan, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Red Devils are in talks over landing a deal for a fan favourite. Romano reports on Twitter that Man Utd are in talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over a return to Old Trafford, with the striker impressing with 17 league goals last season.

Ibrahimovic is, of course, recovering from an injury at present, and looks set to return around the end of the year. He is unlikely to return to the club until that point, but it appears as though Mourinho wants a move tied up ahead of time.

Landlord’s Verdict

This would be a sensational move from Man Utd. Ibrahimovic is a natural goalscorer, and last season he proved that he can still do it in the Premier League.

At his age, he can’t really be relied upon to play every single week, but with Marcus Rashord and Romelu Lukaku, he wouldn’t need to.

The Swede could come in during a highly competitive fixture or to get a goal in the closing moments. He would also bring experience back to the side, and they are really lacking that at present.

This would be a master stroke from Mourinho.
