It has been a very long summer for the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern…
Despite lots of speculation and optimism amongst supporters in the Transfer Tavern, there has been – as of yet- very little action for the Red Devils. A move for a midfielder has been touted as a priority in the pub, but there has been no real movement in that regard as of late.
Significantly, it doesn’t appear as though that is going to be changing anytime soon, with the Daily Mail reporting that Man Utd are still struggling to recruit in the middle of the park. According to the Daily Mail, Man Utd are now looking at alternatives for their midfield rebuild – with key target Nemanja Matic reportedly only going to be sold by the Blues if they land Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer. It is noted that a move for Julian Weigl could be on the cards instead, with Mourinho clearly desperate to add a bit of depth in the role.
With lots of time to go this summer, this appears to be more of a contingency plan for Man Utd over anything else, but a move for Weigl could make sense. He has been a breakout player for Borussia Dortmund over the last couple of years, and despite being just 21-years-old, he was a regular last season. He made 27 starts in the German top flight last year, proving his credentials as one of Germany’s best.
It is very important that Mourinho fills the role well this summer, and whilst Matic may be a great option – Weigl isn’t half bad either according to our landlord.
