The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern had very high hopes for Adnan Januzaj as a young player…
Brought into the fold as a teenager, the confident swagger that characterised his play seemed to suggest that the Belgian was destined for big things – and he certainly backed up that sentiment with fine performances.
However, over the last couple of years, his career has stalled somewhat. A poor spell under Louis van Gaal has led to a couple of poor loans, and whilst he wasn’t terrible at Sunderland last season, he certainly didn’t live up to expectations under David Moyes.
Clearly, Jose Mourinho hasn’t been impressed either, and it looks like the Portuguese isn’t even going to give him a chance next season. According to France Football, Man Utd have sealed an €11 million (£9.6 million) deal with Real Sociedad to take Januzaj to Spain – with just personal terms still needing to be agreed.
It has been a disappointing few years for Januzaj, not least because of how highly-rated he was as a youngster. It was just a couple of years ago that he took over the number 11 shirt from Ryan Giggs – proof that the Man Utd brass were expecting big things – but he has, as of yet, failed to deliver.
The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are still hopeful that he will reach his potential.
