The Transfer Tavern is likely to be filled to the brim with Man Utd fans eager to watch their side take on Benfica this evening, but according to the Daily Record, the eyes of at least one Man Utd representative will be elsewhere.
The Daily Record reports that the Red Devils are amongst a host of top English sides keen on Celtic duo Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney, both of whom have been in fantastic form recently. Representatives of the club are reportedly set to be in attendance to watch the duo as they take on Bayern Munich this evening, with the Red Devils keen to run the rule over two of Europe’s brightest young talents.
Dembele, of course, has been stunning fans for a while now, having burst onto the scene in Scotland last season after a move from Fulham. Offering an incredible goalscoring record, great pace and a lot of technical ability, he has emerged as one of Europe’s most highly-rated young forwards. Kieran Tierney, meanwhile, is a left-back – but he is equally highly-rated amongst educated circles. Offering a great balance of attack and defence, despite being just 20-years-old, the Scotsman is one of the best players in his country.
Whether the Red Devils will move to sign either player remains to be seen, but their interest is certainly there. Based on recent form, Man Utd scouts are likely to witness some impressive performances this evening.
It will be difficult to prize each player away, but as Man Utd are well aware, everybody has a price. They haven’t been afraid to splash the cash to land big signings in recent years, and so there’s nothing to suggest that the same won’t happen again.
Tierney recently signed a new deal, and so signing him would be a particularly difficult feat, so it will be interesting to see how this pans out – particularly given reported interest from a host of Premier League sides.
At present, their interest is just that – interest. But Man Utd could go further if they are impressed.
