It’s clear, at least according to the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern, that the Red Devils need to land a new midfielder this summer…
Man Utd’s squad is full of quality and flair, but their midfield is arguably an area of real concern. The duo of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba are, clearly, very important and will look to impress next season, but beyond them – there is a real lack of depth.
Michael Carrick is no spring chicken and can’t be expected to play every game next season, whilst Marouane Fellaini is unreliable in the middle of the park. Clearly, then, a player with defensive pedigree is needed for the role, but according to the Mirror, the Red Devils’ quest to sign such a player has hit the buffers.
The Mirror reports that Man Utd have given up in their pursuit of Eric Dier, with Tottenham refusing to sell to the Red Devils. This is a particular problem for Jose Mourinho, as it is also said that Chelsea likely won’t be keen to sell Nemanja Matic to their rivals either, leaving the club very short of potential targets in the role.
With only a few weeks to go until the start of the Premier League season, Jose Mourinho is quickly running out of time to find a solution – and with this latest blow, our landlord isn’t sure where he can turn to next.
