The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are nervous about the future of David De Gea…
The Spaniard has been linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, and whilst a move has yet to be confirmed, it is looking increasingly likely that the goalkeeper will move across Europe.
Certainly, his departure would pose a pretty big problem for Man Utd, but it is an issue that can be solved. The club are reportedly keen on a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford – and if De Gea leaves, the Englishman is the perfect fit.
Take a look at how well he has done this season. Sunderland themselves have struggled, as displayed by their current league position, but there has been one shining light within the team. Pickford has consistently been able to keep the Black Cats within games, and whilst nobody else in the Sunderland first team has really posed much of a threat – Pickford has remained impressive.
This is important as he has been able to impress despite the fact that his side has been poor, particularly defensively. Despite being faced with constant attacks and regularly being thrust into action, Pickford has continued to perform well – and that is particularly impressive. Of course, at Man Utd, he would be involved far less often, and this will only serve to help him get even better.
For Man Utd, crucially, he would also be defined as a homegrown talent, which is important for their position contextually within the Premier League. His age is also a bonus, as he would be a long-term solution.
You can’t compare Pickford and De Gea, but if the Spanish shot-stopper does leave club, Pickford would be a great option.
