He has been as divisive as ever this season amongst the Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…
Wayne Rooney, for all of his historical form and achievements, has simply not been good enough this season.
The Man Utd captain has struggled for form, and a few of the more critical United fans in the Tavern have blamed the club’s mixed form this season on his poor performances.
Whilst that debate is a difficult one to come to a conclusion on, the Red Devils have improved somewhat in his absence – and this has lead to speculation in the Tavern regarding what Rooney can do next.
If he is out of the team, and the club are playing well – where does Rooney fit in? A Man Utd departure has been touted by a few of the punters in the Tavern, but it would appear that the English veteran is not ready to throw the towel in quite yet.
As per Manchester Evening News, Rooney has taken a defiant stance in response to being dropped by Mourinho.
He said: “I’m 31 next week, I’ve got a lot of football left”.
Rooney continued: “I want to play. I have to try and do my job for the team and wait for my chance and take it when I get it”.
He was also questioned on whether he felt he could still do a job, stating: “I like to think I can play every game, but obviously it’s the manger’s decision”.
Rooney does not look ready to give up, and you have to commend him for that.
Our landlord definitely thinks that Rooney deserves an opportunity to prove himself, even if it does mean a few weeks on the sidelines first and foremost.
The Man Utd fans have been frustrated with Rooney as of late, but they have been keen to remember how much he has done for the club. Since arriving, Rooney has won everything that there is to win – and he deserves the praise of every Man Utd fan.
A few of the punters propped up by the bar are touting him to get back to his best…
