Man Utd suffer blow in pursuit of exciting 21-year-old attacker

Bad news for the Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…

Man Utd have had a poor 2016/17 season so far, with the Mourinho-led side currently sat in 6th place in the Premier League – performing far below expectations.

In truth, the Red Devils have looked poor up and down the pitch, and the Man Utd fans in the Tavern have been unable to pinpoint one exact area in which their side has struggled.

The defence and midfield have been poor, granted, but our landlord reckons that the Man Utd attack is where the issues lie – with the likes of Martial, Rooney and Ibrahimovic yet to light fires in the Premier League.

It came as no surprise, then, to hear that Mourinho was reportedly eyeing up another option up top – with Sporting winger Gelson Martines reportedly on his transfer list for January earlier in the season.

However, it would appear that the Portuguese boss has suffered a blow in his pursuit, with the player’s agent revealing via A Bola that he will remain in Portugal in January.

Speaking to A Bola, Ulises Santos, who is the agent of Gelson Martins, revealed: “There is no proposal. He is a Sporting player and will continue to be in January…He has a long contract and will not leave”.

That appears to be fairly concrete for Man Utd – it would seem that there is no way that Martins is leaving in January.

This has disappointed the Man Utd fans in the Tavern, many of whom are not looking forward to having to rely upon an out-of-form Martial or an out-of-position Marcus Rashford for the rest of the season.

Our landlord has suggested that they shouldn’t rule anything out, especially given Mourinho’s track record of signing seemingly unavailable players – but he does think it would make sense to start looking elsewhere.
