There are more than a few problems at Man Utd, and with every passing week, another issue seems to pop up. The latest dilemma on the minds of the Man Utd brass surrounds Eric Bailly.
Of course, the Red Devils won’t want to lose a defender without replacing them first; and so what if they could do both things in one swoop?
Tottenham, of course, are enjoying the fine form of Toby Alderweireld this season, but the Daily Record also note that Spurs wouldn’t be against selling him. Make no mistake, the Red Devils would struggle to find a better replacement for Bailly than Alderweireeld.
After all, he’s proven in the Premier League, and he has bags of experience behind him. Comfortable with the ball at his feet and with the ball in his air, Alderweireld has been one o the standout players in the Premier League since he moved to North London, and he’d undeniably bring that quality to Old Trafford.
Of course, at 29-years-old, he’s not a long-term option – but does that matter? Man Utd haven’t achieved regular success in years, and so signing young players clearly isn’t always the answer. If Man Utd wan’t to win trophies – and make no mistake, that’s exactly what Ed Woodward wants – signing proven quality like Alderweireld would aid that.
It might hurt the club to move Bailly on to a rival, but if Tottenham don’t sign the Ivorian they’ll undoubtedly just look elsewhere. If Man Utd involve themselves in this deal, at least they’ll be weakening the Lilywhites by taking one of their best players – if Daniel Levy agrees, of course.
