The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for that midfielder Mauranne Fellaini will extend his stay at Old Trafford. He has become an important part of the first team under Jose Mourinho, and they have missed him this term when he has been injured.
This opinion, it seems, is shared by the Man Utd brass – with ESPN reporting that there is a desire to extend his stay at the club. His current deal expires at the end of the season, and according to ESPN, Man Utd are keen to secure an extension with him through to next season, despite his decision to turn down a new deal last year.
He has suffered an injury-wrought season at Old Trafford this term, and has been unavailable for selection for Jose Mourinho through an important period of games. He’s certainly been missed, with his ability to come in and do a job both offensively and defensively often underrated by our resident Red Devils.
In many ways, he’s a typical Mourinho player. He’s strong, he’s powerful and he is a real threat in the air, and the Portuguese has often turned to him when needed if he is looking to close out a game or pick up a late goal since the former Chelsea manager moved north.
Whether he changes his mind and decides to renew remains to be seen, but the Red Devils are clearly holding out hope.
Man Utd will clearly want to give him a new deal, as not only can he then still have a role at the club, but it would also allow them to sell him for a fee if they decide to cash in.
He will no doubt do a job for them for the rest of the campaign, and if they can enjoy a successful second-half of the season, perhaps he will change his mind.
