As the Man Utd fans left the Transfer Tavern before December festivities heated up, things on the transfer front were looking pretty rosy…
A deal for Victor Lindelof was beginning to look pretty inevitable, and many in the Tavern were already toasting to another one of Jose Mourinho’s impressive surprise signings.
However, it would appear as though the deal has taken a pretty significant twist ahead of the January transfer window…
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Lindelof now looks set to sign a new contract with Benfica – in a move that will see Man Utd’s fee for the defender increase.
However, in good news for the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern, it will reportedly not hold up any move – with a shirt number and plans for the future already planned by the Manchester giants and Jose Mourinho.
The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t too sure why the new deal is being given, but they are pleased that a move is still looking likely.
Our landlord thinks that the increase is simply a financial move by Benfica, allowing them to adequately prepare for life after Lindelof.
With the Man Utd defence struggling this season, he also thinks that even an increased fee should not put Mourinho – with a deal, at this point, absolutely vital.
