Manager appears at Carrington for Man United midfielder talks – Report

Manchester United fans here in the Tavern are hoping to see their side secure a top-four spot this season, as success may not be too far away for the Red Devils.

Jose Mourinho has done his best to offer opportunities to those deserved of a chance in the United first-team so far this season, as one youth product in particular has earned an extended run in the side. Indeed, after seeing Marcus Rashford’s rise to stardom in years gone by for the Red Devils, academy product Scott McTominay looks to be the new kid on the block for the Manchester club. Although, his rise in form so far this season has caused for two countries to battle for his international allegiance, as according to reports in the Daily Star, Scotland boss Alex McLeish travelled to Carrington in an attempt to persuade the 21-year-old to link up with his squad.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay qualifies for both England and Scotland at an international level, because he was born in England but has Scottish relatives. However, this has caused for a major tug-of-war between the two countries, with Alex McLeish doing everything he can to make the midfielder commit to a future in Scotland.

But, England manager Gareth Southgate is also meeting McTominay in the hope of snatching him from the clutches of the Scotsman. Although, there does appear to be some positive news for those of an English descent, as it’s understood that the United midfielder wants to represent England and may even be included in Southgate’s squad for this month’s friendlies.

Indeed, to add further insult to injury for the Scots, Manchester United teammates Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford haven’t helped their chances of securing the youngster, after telling him to commit his future to the Three Lions.

Landlord’s Verdict:

This is positive news for all the England-born Manchester United supporters here in the Tavern, as it looks like they’ll get to witness one of their club’s most promising players work his magic on the international stage. Although, there is no confirmation of McTominay’s commitment to a future with the England national team, so there’s still time for Alex McLeish to try to persuade the young man to change his opinion.
