Rumours suggest that a number of Premier League clubs – notably Liverpool and Tottenham – are eyeing up their star-man Jamie Vardy. The leading goal scorer, who still has three years left on his contract with the Foxes, is the centre of unavoidable speculation that he could leave the King Power for pastures new.
But according to sources at the Leicester Mercury the lads can relax and enjoy their pool and pints here at the Tavern.
Claudio Ranieri has dismissed claims that Vardy is for sale and also believes that “not many clubs” can afford the 28-year-old striker – even if there are astounding reports from Spain claiming that Real Madrid have shown interest in Vardy’s recent performances.
The Italian ‘Tinkerman’ told the Leicester Mercury that the striker is “very happy” at Leicester:
“It is important Jamie enjoys it here and after I can also understand if he wants to go to find a great club – but it would cost a lot. If Real Madrid or some big names want to buy him, they have the money to buy him. But not many teams can buy him now.”
“He is very happy here and we don’t want to sell him. That is clear.”
One of the punters comes over to the bar and confides in the Tavern landlord. He says he would be shocked if an important club player like Vardy would be sold for as cheap as the reports suggest and hopes that Ranieri can do all he can to keep him at his beloved Foxes – before he goes back to the pool table with another cheeky round for the boys.
