Manager confirms Chelsea interest in highly-coveted star

Yevhen KonoplyankaChelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited to see comments that confirm their club is extremely interested in bringing a European star to Stamford Bridge in January.

Sky Sports state that Jose Mourinho was in Ukraine to watch Spain’s 1-0 international victory last Monday, where he was scouting three potential signings.

According to Shakhtar Donestk boss Mircea Lucescu, the three players he was looking at were Yevhen Konoplyanka, Andriy Yarmolenko and Alex Teixeira.

Lucescu believes Konoplyanka is Mourinho’s first-choice but the other two players remain possibilities, as he said:

“Mourinho is interested in Yevhen Konoplyanka. I was at Ukraine versus Spain with Mourinho and he is interested in some players.”

“Perhaps it is Yarmolenko or Teixeira, if not, then it is Konoplyanka.”

Konoplyanka moved from Dnipro to Spanish outfit Sevilla over the summer and although a January move is possible, that option remains unlikely as the Ukrainian is cup-tied for the Champions League.

Our Chelsea supporters at the bar are desperate for top-class recruits to arrive in January and have told us they would be more than happy with any of the three players mentioned above.

Chelsea fans, can Konoplyanka get your season back on track? Let us know in the comments below!
