Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are wondering what might have been had they pulled off a major coup this summer, after the general manager of Schalke confirmed the Reds interest in their star-man.
A punter wandered in with a copy of German magazine Focus this afternoon, which got the locals talking after Horst Heldt confirmed Liverpool made an approach to sign Leroy Sane over the summer.
The 19-year-old sensation, son of former Senegalese international Souleyman Sane, has been making waves in the Bundesliga this season; becoming yet another young German talent that’s topping the wishlist for many elite clubs.
Translated by Metro, Heldt revealed Liverpool had made their interest clear in the teenager as he said:
“There was one or another prestigious clubs that contacted us. Liverpool was ready to pay money.’
Liverpool punters quickly scoured the internet on their phones for any fresh links to the player and were pleased to see German publication Bild suggest the Reds would return with a fresh approach in January.
