Arsenal fans were left disappointed over the weekend as they saw one of their stars booed on the international stage once again but they’re pleased to see his manager jump to his defence.
French football fans booed Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud before their Euro 2016 warm-up victory over Cameroon, where the former Montpellier man netted a brilliant volley to help the hosts for this summer’s tournament secure a 3-2 victory.
However, stories concerning Giroud revolve around the reception he got at the weekend, which was the second-time Giroud has been booed on the international stage this season but France manager Didier Deschamps was pleased with the player’s performance, as The Independent quotes him as saying:
You hear what you want. The whistles were unfair tonight, but in Biarritz, he was applauded. People can be conditioned.”
“But Olivier scored again. When you say it, you are not helpful. You are free to say what you want but this is not necessarily the truth.”
Giroud faces intense pressure for the Euro 2016 favourites this summer due to the absence of Real Madrid hitman Karim Benzema, which puts the Arsenal man as the experienced striker in the squad, though Les Bleus also boast the talents of Antoine Griezmann and Anthony Martial.
