When Edin Dzeko’s name crops up at the bar, we, at the Football Transfer Tavern, assume it is because the striker is being linked with yet another club. However, Jason Burt of The Telegraph has just pulled up a bar stool and given us the news that the Dzeko will in fact be staying at Manchester City this summer.
The 27-year-old has been linked with several of Europe’s elite clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea, but it sounds like new City boss, Manuel Pellegrini has Dzeko very much in his plans, he said:
“I spoke two weeks ago with Dzeko when he was on holiday and he does not have any problems,”
“He will stay here. For me, he’s a very important player. I’m sure that he will give this year the performances to show what he can do.”
Dzeko found playing time, under previous manager Roberto Mancini, infrequent, with the Italian preferring to use Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and Mario Balotelli ahead of the Bosnian.
Despite the reassurances from Pellegrini, that Dzeko will feature more next season, City continue to still be linked with several of Europe’s top strikers with Stevan Jovetic reportedly close to completing a £27 million move from Fiorentina.
Anyway, I best get going, the snooker tournament is about to begin.
