Manchester City fans in the Tavern will be buying another round to drown their sorrows after manager Manuel Pellegrini dismissed speculation linking the club with a January swoop for top players, including several attacking players.
The Blues have recently been linked with moves for two high-profile attacking midfielders in January in the form of Isco and Leroy Sane.
However, Pellegrini believes that the options are his disposal are more than enough, with the Chilean saying he has ‘the complete midfield’.
City have been linked with moves for Schalke teenager Leroy Sane and out-of-favour Real Madrid playmaker Isco, who came close to a move to the Etihad Stadium back in 2013. But Pellegrini said:
“With Manchester City there are always rumours, not only midfielders. Where you have players, it’s always Manchester City interested in them.”
“For the moment, with Jesus [Navas], with Kevin [De Bruyne], with David [Silva], with Raheem Sterling, with Yaya [Toure, who can play forward, we have the complete midfielders.”
Although Pellegrini played down the chances of any major deals in January, he did not close the door completely.”
“Really I think the squad is complete. As always, I said that we are not going to close the window but we are not really thinking of any special players to bring in.”
Meanwhile, any hopes of luring Sane to the Etihad were ended on Thursday when Schalke general manager Horst Heldt ruled out a sale.
“We don’t want to sell him and Leroy doesn’t want to leave the club. Even Man City haven’t got that much money!”
