There is drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is revealed by the Daily Express that Manchester City are closing in on a deal for Edinson Cavani.
What has become increasingly clear as the season progressed was that City needed a world class forward. Mario Balotelli may look like one for AC Milan but in reality during his time at City, the player was a nightmare and ultimately deserved to be sold by the club.
Add to this the inconsistent form of Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero and you have a very hit and miss Citizens front line. Now it is claimed that Roberto Mancini may be about to land his number one target for the summer and the man on just about everyone’s transfer wishlist – Edinson Cavani.
The Uruguayan forward has been simply sensational this season anchoring Napoli and leading them to second place in the Serie A table and has been courted by just about every top club going. Now it seems that a £40 million deal is on the cards and not only will cash be exchanging hands, but Edin Dzeko will be going the other way.
The forward may be the top scorer at the Etihad Stadium this season yet is certainly not the one for manager Mancini who has shown no real faith in the forward, prompting Bosnian international Dzeko to push for a move away from the club this summer. The player is reportedly not against a move to Napoli and City are getting closer to the aforementioned player plus cash deal by the day.
Will Cavani be trading the sky blue of Napoli for the sky blue of Manchester City? Rate this rumour below.
