The Daily Mail have Manchester City fans looking rather impressed here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The reason for their joy is the fact that the publication have claimed that the Citizens are closing in on in-demand French defender Eliaquim Mangala.
The player is currently excelling at Porto and has attracted interest from a fair few top sides in Europe, including Chelsea.
However, it seems that Manuel Pellegrini will be the winner in this battle at the very least with the club closing in on a £20 million deal.
As our punters claim over a pint, just as Chelsea would be top of the table had they bought a decent forward – or any at all – City would probably say the same when it comes to their defence.
At times this season, especially on the road, the Citizens have been left wanting at the back, and with the donkey that is Martin Demichelis still at the club, punters want to see a world class defender brought to help bolster the ranks.
City not only crave success on a domestic front, but they also need to be showing more fight in Europe, and a player like Mangala – who netted the only Porto goal in their midweek Europa League tie – could be the person to help instil that.
