Manchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern acknowledge their club’s activity has been less spectacular than usual this transfer window but the Manchester Evening News reckons another big money addition is imminent.
The Premier League champions are set to be on the verge of signing French international defender Eliaquim Mangala from Porto.
The 23-year-old is set to be City’s marquee signing of the summer and looks set to cost in the region of £32million.
Manuel Pellegrini has been on the lookout for a world class partner for Vincent Kompany in the centre of defence and it seems the Porto man is his final choice.
Once Mangala’s arrival is confirmed, Pellegrini looks set to turn his attention to players moving in the other direction.
Jack Rodwell, Micah Richards, Javi Garcia, Scott Sinclair and Mataja Nastasic could all find themselves surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium.
Meanwhile, six members of the City squad are set to return to their Carrington training ground following the World Cup.
New signing Bacary Sagna, is set to join captain Vincent Kompany, Fernandinho, and Argentine trio Sergio Aguero, Martin Demichelis and Pablo Zabaleta in returning for pre-season training.
The Citizens have of course already brought in Bacary Sagna, Bruno Zuculini, Willy Caballero, Fernando and Frank Lampard so far this summer.
