Manchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been somewhat surprised at how low key their club’s signings have been during the transfer window thus far.
However, reports at the Daily Mail suggest a big money transfer is close.
The reigning Premier League champions are close to bringing in Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala as a partner for captain Vincent Kompany next season, according to the publication.
City have been monitoring the France international for the past 18 months and are understood to be close to agreeing a £ 30 million deal.
Mangala is already said to have had a medical at City, whilst the club continue to iron out the finer details of the deal, which is complicated due to third-party ownership.
City have already brought in midfielder Fernando from Porto this summer, having been quoted £50 million for both him and Mangala during the January transfer window.
With Fernando costing £12 million, and Mangala set to cost £30 million, it looks as if Manuel Pellegrini’s patience will end up saving City £8 million.
Manchester City fans. Pellegrini is thought to consider Mangala the perfect partner for Vincent Kompany, but what do you think? Is he the best centre back option on the market this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
