After their shocking defensive performance during the Community Shield drubbing by Arsenal, Manchester City fans are not looking too impressed here in the Football Transfer Tavern but BBC Sport have instantly cheered them up.
The Beeb have confirmed that the Citizens have completed the signing of French international Eliaquim Mangala from Porto with the 23-year-old joining for a whopping £32 million.
Mangala will join former Porto team-mate Fernando at the Etihad Stadium after a distinguished spell spent with the Primeira Liga giants.
Manchester City had tried to lure the pair to England in the January transfer window but Citizens fans by the bar are delighted that they have finally snared Mangala.
Of course as one of our punters notes, the league winners did post a video of Mangala signing for them on their website before taking it down and we certainly think the deal has been done for a while.
Given the Citizens’ shaky Community Shield performance yesterday, not to mention the results when skipper Vincent Kompany is absent, the capture of Mangala is probably a very, very good thing.
Mangala’s arrival could spell the end of Matija Nastasic’s Citizens career with the young Serbian international linked with a switch to Arsenal.
Manchester City fans. What did you make of the performance against Arsenal? Will the signing of Mangala help strengthen your back line ahead of the defence of your Premier League title? Let us know your thoughts below.
