Manchester City will waltz into the new season with just the one big money capture to their name this summer, as Riyad Mahrez finally made the move from Leicester to the Etihad.
The Algerian is an excellent capture for City, and gives them yet another superb attacking option in the wide midfield areas, something they perhaps lacked last term if Raheem Sterling or Leroy Sane were missing.
However, we here at the Transfer Tavern are thinking that the club could have done with adding one or two more players, especially up front, where we feel having only Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus could well come back to bite the club in the backside going into this season.
One player we believe that Pep Guardiola should have gone all out to capture is PSG striker Edinson Cavani, who has been superb over the course of a number of seasons now for both club and country.
Not only that, but Cavani offers something completely different to the options already available for Guardiola, given his size, strength, and general presence up top.
While Aguero and Jesus remain world class strikers in their own right, adding someone like Cavani would have given City an all new aspect to their attacking play, and ultimately, a plan B for when their expansive football wasn’t quite working out.
It remains to be seen whether Pep will act in January, but if he does, signing someone like Cavani could be ideal.
City fans, what do you think? Would Cavani have been a good signing? Let us know in the comments!
