Fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern are waiting with baited breath for the supposed summer clear out at Manchester City, and Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Star has news on a player who could be on his way to the Etihad Stadium pretty soon.
The club are reportedly lining up a £17 million bid for Greek international defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos, with it understood talks have already begun with the 21-year-old’s club Schalke over the move.
Sources close to the German club have revealed that the two clubs are understood to be very close to reaching an agreement.
Roberto Mancini is preparing for a summer overhaul already, and has earmarked Joleon Lescott and Kolo Toure as players to depart in order to make way for the young Greek.
He won’t come cheap however, with £17 million representing the buy out clause in the players contract.
The 6 ft 0 in tall centre back is one of the most highly rated defenders in Europe, and has also caught the attention of AC Milan and City’s rivals Manchester United.
Papadopoulos has already won 16 caps for Greece, and could be one of several big money arrivals at City this summer.
The club have also reportedly targeted Jesus Navas of Sevilla and Dortmund’s attacking midfielder Marco Reus.
