Manchester City eyeing up move for 21-year-old central defender, €65 million buyout clause in player’s contract

guardiolaguardiolaguardiolaPremier League outfit Manchester City are lining-up Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez as a potential summer recruit, with boss Pep Guardiola desperately keen to add some quality to his defensive unit, according to a report in AS.

The Uruguayan has been a mainstay in the Madrid side over the past 12 months and was a key part of the team who reached the Champions League Final back in May, with several clubs now supposedly keen on a move for the player.

The Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern have overheard the landlord chatting about this news and they believe that Gimenez can be the man to bolster their back four sufficiently.

The 21-year-old has a buyout clause in his contract of around €65 million which is well within the budget which Guardiola has to spend at City this summer.

One Manchester City fan is waiting for the Wednesday night curry club to begin here in the Tavern and he thinks that the young defender would be perfect for City, stating that he could learn plenty from a fully fit Vincent Kompany.

Manchester City fans, what do you know about Gimenez? Can he be a good enough player for City?
