Manchester City

Manchester City fans are heaping praise on this academy product, but it’s not Phil Foden

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their side will bounce back from their FA Cup disappointment by defeating Arsenal in the final of the Carabao Cup this Sunday.

Manchester City were stunned by Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup for the third time in the space of 5 years on Monday evening as they crashed out of the competition at the 5th round stage following a 1-0 defeat at the DW Stadium. After harbouring dreams of lifting all four trophies this season, the result was a huge blow, but the supporters will quickly forget about their defeat if they manage to win the Carabao Cup on Sunday.

However, the supporters turned their attention towards their youth team last night as City’s U19 squad took on Inter Milan in the last-sixteen of the UEFA Youth League.

City got off to the worst possible start as they found themselves behind after just 11 minutes, but they quickly responded and grabbed an equaliser after 27 minutes courtesy of a penalty from Lukas Nmecha.

The scores remained level until the full-time whistle, so penalties were needed to determine the winner, and not for the first time in City’s recent history, they had their goalkeeper to thank for qualifying for the quarter finals after winning 4-3 on penalties.

The young goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw managed to save four Inter Milan penalties in the shootout as both sides struggled to keep their nerve from the spot, and the City supporters were full of praise for the 20-year-old on Twitter for his match-winning performance between the sticks.

Here’s what the City fans have had to say about Grimshaw’s penalty heroics last night…
