Manchester City were not at their best yesterday in their 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates, but manager Pep Guardiola will still be pleased with the fashion in which his side kicked off their Premier League title defence.
And the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager is also likely to be happy with David Silva confirming his international retirement.
Silva, who is valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, has decided to call time on his successful international career with the Spain national team where he made 125 appearances and won the World Cup on top of two European Championships.
Having already seen Andres Iniesta retire after a disappointing World Cup campaign in Russia, Spain fans will be gutted to see Silva also leave the international scene.
However, as well as Guardiola, Manchester City supporters will be delighted with the fact that Silva’s sole focus will now be on helping the club win more silverware.
Have a look at what at what the Manchester City faithful are saying on Silva’s international retirement below…
Hard to imagine Spain NT playing football again without both you and Iniesta in midfield. pic.twitter.com/6MZ1JwfWp8

The very greatest player ever to pull on the City shirt. Hate to see you leave international football, but all the better for us. Many more years to come.
