The Manchester City fans are gathered at the bar supping a few pints in The Transfer Tavern this evening discussing reports that their captain could be set for a summer exit from the club.
The Sun is reporting that incoming Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has instructed Txiki Begiristain to offload Vincent Kompany as he sets about his plans for City’s title bid for next season.
Guardiola is looking to overhaul the club’s defensive options as he wants to make them a much harder side to break down.
Kompany has an injury interrupted campaign to date so far this term with the Belgian international only starting 12 of the club’s Premier League games this season.
The Belgian had a solid start to life with Manchester City but after a couple of injury hit campaigns his performances have dropped and he has become more apprehensive in his approach.
Guardiola has reportedly thought long and hard about keeping Kompany as back up for a new centre back pairing but feels that their would be dissent in the ranks due to the players lack of game time and that is something he wants to avoid.
The Manchester City fans in The Tavern hope that the reports are false as they feel that Kompany still has a lot to offer the club and it would be a mistake to let him leave this summer.
