Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is interested in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar as he looks to ease his defensive worries following the injury to Aymeric Laporte.
According to The Express, City have identified the big Slovakian defender as the ideal January replacement for Laporte, who is set to miss a chunk of the season after picking up an injury last week.
Skriniar has been an ever present for Inter Milan over the last few seasons, and that sort of consistency and approach has seemingly caught the eye of Guardiola and City.
The 24-year-old, who is a full Slovakian international, showed his class last season as he played his part in helping Inter to a mammoth 15 clean sheets in Serie A, while the season before he bettered that still, racking up 17 clean sheets throughout the course of the league campaign.
It is this sort of solid form which will be interesting Guardiola as he looks to bring someone in for the equally impressive Laporte.
Laporte has undergone surgery on his knee after a clash with Brighton’s Adam Webster left him writhing in agony. The French defender had firmly cemented himself in the first XI under Guardiola, and will no doubt represent a big loss for City as they look to retain their Premier League title.
If City are going to replace Laporte, then adding someone like Skriniar is the ideal move surely.
He’s been excellent for Inter for a number of seasons now and at just 24, has plenty of scope and room for development.
It will be interesting to see if the player himself is interested in making the move to City, especially given Laporte is a regular and could well get his place back when he does indeed return from injury.
