Manchester City handed significant blow ahead of Chelsea clash

Sergio Aguero was injured in a taxi accident following a concert in Netherlands and looks set to be out for a fair few weeks with broken ribs.

Manchester City’s Argentine striker was injured in a car accident following a concert by Colombian singer Maluma in Amsterdam.

The Argentine striker attended the concert during his time off, yet the taxi he was travelling in had an accident on his way back to the airport.

It is believed that Sergio Aguero will be injured for between two to four weeks – the club has said via the Guardian – and will subsequently miss Manchester City’s game against Chelsea today.

The news comes as a blow to Pep Guardiola’s side, as the 29-year-old had made a terrific start to the new season. In six Premier League games, Aguero had scored a total of six goals while also providing three assists.

It gives a chance to the likes of Gabriel Jesus to really stake his claim, though, and it remains to be seen if he can take it at Stamford Bridge tonight.

Landlord’s verdict

Pep Guardiola will be bitterly disappointed by the news, Aguero has scored seven goals in eight games in all competitions for City this season. Nonetheless, it’s an opportunity for Jesus to impress in Aguero’s absence.

And, if the Brazilian can do that, it’ll be interesting to see if Aguero comes straight back in.
